Bringing Your Broken Brakes Back to Life
If you’re planning to drive, you can’t do without your brakes. Delaying brake care shouldn’t even be a consideration. Consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual and/or speak with one of our mechanics to create a plan for routine preventive maintenance services. These should include regular brake inspections and fluid top-offs or exchanges as needed. Should you suspect an issue or a problem be detected during a service visit, we can make the necessary repairs for you. While we’ll need to check your vehicle and discuss the needed repairs with you, there are some typical issues that we often need to fix. For example, every automobile will eventually need to have brake pads changed. They’re tough, but still consumable items that are susceptible to wear. If they’re less than 3.2 millimeters (the scant minimum) in thickness, they’re unsafe and must be changed. The caliper, which holds the brake pad and allows it to move against the rotor to stop the car, can become stuck. This prevents the pad from disengaging from the rotor and emits a nasty burning odor. If this occurs, we’ll need to remedy the situation. Leaking brake fluid is also a cause for concern. Since your braking system relies on hydraulic pressure to work, and insufficient fluid level can become dangerous. Brake fluid is stored in the master cylinder. Once the brake pedal is activated, the fluid travels through lines to the cylinder at each wheel. If these lines, the master cylinder, or the wheel cylinders crack, you’ll notice a leak that we need to fix.
